Five Reasons to Support King County Project Access

Reason One: Who we serve

We serve some of the lowest income, most diverse people in King County.

Most of them don’t know where to turn for the services they need. Some are in pain. Our patients need to be able to count on us.

That’s ONE important reason to support the work of King County Project Access.

Here are four more:

Reason Two: What we offer

While primary care is available in a number of safety net settings, only King County Project Access (KCPA) helps link these same patients with nearly 500 of the top specialists representing more than 20 different specialties.

These specialty physicians donate their medical care to our patients. Hospitals, labs, imaging centers also donate their services to support these volunteer physicians. This model of care enabled KCPA to provide more than $8 million dollars in donated care and services in 2009. (Table with value of donated services)

Reason Three: It's about the money

  • We provide our funders with a 15:1 return on their health care dollar. We save health care dollars every day by providing patients with care that doesn’t require visiting a hospital emergency room.

Reason Four: Charity Care dollars

We help hospitals save charity care dollars.

KCPA helps reduce inappropriate utilization and saves overall hospital charity costs. Washington State Department of Health data estimate that every uncompensated Emergency Department visit saves a hospital $1500 in uncollected charges.

Reason Five: Emergency Department use

We help reduce Emergency Department use by the uninsured.

After enrolling patients in a Project Access model, several communities across the nation saw between a 40 to 60 percent drop in Emergency Department use.
